Since the previous emergency exercise, Operation Shelter, in 2000, the then Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC,) Highveld Ridge Emergency Action Team (HEAT), ceased to function as intended.
In 2007 the LEPC was reinstated – Community Awareness and Emergency Response (CAER).
The vision of CAER is to facilitate pro active Emergency Management to the benefit of the Govan Mbeki Community.
This is realised through continuous improvement by addressing lessons learned during emergency exercises and / or incidents.
Sasol Secunda, as a member of CAER, is committed to ensuring the health and safety of the community in general and specifically if it could be threatened by incidents.
One of the vehicles CAER utilizes to ensure the safety of the community is the staging of emergency exercises involving / threatening the community.
Probable scenarios are identified which may affect the health and safety of the community to facilitate the drafting of emergency plans which are tested during emergency exercises.
CAER takes community awareness very seriously and as such have appointed Grass Roots Africa Marketing (contact Lauren Levitas) as their communications specialists. A thorough marketing strategy has been formulated & implemented and is ongoing.
